I-styeria

Today is a tech nerd’s dream. Today is has been a really fun day to be a nerd. Today is the tech equivalent of awaiting the OJ verdict. Today the iPhone from Apple drops and according to reviews and Apple themselves, it will change the way cellphones are used and created. It is all over the news and the blogs, but today I won’t be getting one. But today is a tech dream for me in a different way because I got the poor mans’s iPhone – a Blackberry.

Is a sorta long story – but on the way into work today I stopped by the AT&T store near me to buy the Blackberry Pearl. It was just sorta fun to be buying something the day the iPhone comes out. And the energy was palpable in the store even at 9am. Big iPhone displays and a cop inside just incase anything got out of hand. There were even 6 guys sitting in camping chairs waiting to pick up their phone at 6pm. Whats crazy is that this is a small AT&T store outside of the city and sort of in the country.

All this to say – I think the iPhone is going to be amazing. I would really love to have one. But the reality of it is I won’t be getting one anytime soon. I’m just happy to have a phone that makes phone calls, can take crummy pictures and tells me when my next meeting is.

Update: Photogenic Dog

FYI: I think im in the lead at the Lomography Monthly photo contest. Thank you for viewing and keeping the photo of Gracie alive. I keep getting comments from people around the world which is really fun. Keep on checking out the photo – because each view is a vote.

One thing someone asked me was “what the heck is this” – well – go to lomography.com and find out for yourself. Also check out my Lomo page (sorta like Flickr for old Russian camera nuts).

So go to the Lomography monthly contest site, scroll to one of the first pages of submissions (2nd to last page) and seek out the one called “Dog on the Lake”. If you find it, click on it.. and get me some click points. You rule. (especially Dusty who tries to get double digits every day)

Operation “Fathers Day”

manley mission accomplishedThis past weekend for Fathers day Chris, Leah and I decided to surprise my dad. We went up on Saturday morning, surprised him at a lunch set up by my mom. (he thought they were meeting some friends for lunch)  It was great to see the look of  ” hey… those are my kids sitting at our table.”  We chilled out Saturday night and then spent the afternoon on Sunday out on the lake. It was the best way to kill a weekend. I told my buddy/roomate Chad that my goal was to get my dad to cry. Chris and Leah both thought it couldn’t happen. But it did. Mission accomplished.

Wilco- by brian manley
Leah rules. She pulled some strings with some business contacts and got me into see Wilco this afternon for a private concert. (like the Damien Rice one  a few weeks ago).  It was sponsored by Dave fm and  was something you win I guess. Like the Damien Rice one, she has a friend at the station that makes action happen. So I left work early today to go to the mini- concert. Sadly… it was very mini. After 4 songs it started to rain pretty heavy and do all that thunder and lightning stuff, so the killed the gig. It was a bit of a bummer, but those 4 songs were effortlessly brilliant. Hopefully they’ll be up on Dave fm’s site soon.

Photogenic Dog

My parent’s dog Gracie is famous. Its really weird. She was all dressed up in her doggie lake getup last year sometime, mom snapped a shot, and sent it to the Charlotte Observer. A few weeks later than ran the photo as a quarter page “Summertime” photo montage. Soon Gracie was famous. Friends and neighbors were calling Mom and Dad to say that they saw the cute photo of Gracie. Even at the dock where they keep their boat there is a bullitin board with gracie’s photo from the paper. Like i said… its weird.

On memorial day weekend we went to Charlotte to chill with the parentals. We went out on the boat and I quckly snapped this shot with my Lomo camera.DogglesIts cute and fun – so I thought I should submit it to the Lomography monthly contest which I have done repeatedly for months with no comments and winning nothing. As soon as I submitted this photo, and I mean with in 4 minutes, I started receiving comments on this photo. So…. this is cool and new for me.

So… if you want to … go to the Lomography monthly contest site, scroll to one of the first pages of submissions and seek out the one called “Dog on the Lake”. If you find it, click on it.. and get me some click points. So far I have over 100 views – so help a brotha out!

(sorry I can’t hot link the photo or exact page to view the photo – Lomography’s site is weirdly designed)

Feist

We get to go see her tonight…I am excited!

Actually enjoy…

It been a few month since I quit my job as high school pastor at the Crystal Cathedral, and in the midst of quitting and moving I really didn’t get a chance to reflect much on leaving.  I didn’t reflect much personally/internally or on this ‘internets’ the kids are into.  I really tried to stop myself from talking too much crap on my former employer, and I’ll try to honor that, but one thought I’ve had lately on the change is that… I actually like going to work now.

I look forward to going to work. There, I said it. I know its counter-cultural to what we Americans are supposed to say, but I really do. I get paid to stretch my creative brain, keep up with web trends,  pop culture, music and all that junk. I get paid to design and be inventive towards something I belive in… music/fans/technology.

Not that I didn’t have any of that in ministry, but its very different now. I now work within a time block : 9am -6pm. Done.  Ministry was so all over the map, it owned my calendar to the point where I just gave up trying to figure out what I was doing next.

Right now, I am in ministry recovery. Like Danny Bonaduce getting off the sauce, I’m getting out of paid ministry… and recovering from it. Thats why I have not been to a church service since we arrived in Atlanta.  I don’t want to go.  I want to be at home reading a book, the Bible and filling my brain with good stuff.  Thats what I’m doing now.

More on all this later. Now I gotta get back to working… which I enjoy.

DiscRevolt advert #1

Check out the new DiscRevolt advertisement. It will air at the Cornerstone Festival mains stage sometime durring the festival. I had a bit to do with this one, more on the 2nd one. Some of my photograpy handy work… as well as my Johnny Cash tshrit thrown in for good measure. (no.. I didn’t edit or create the video)

Mouth Breather

I spent the better part of last week with a nasty cold/flu hybrid and I’m still catching myself doing one thing I hate… mouth breathing. When you get sick and your nose stuff up, you can’t help but to breath out of your mouth. Otherwise you die. Thats not good. But I’m more concerned with the bigger issue of mouth breathing, looking like a moron.

You know those people you see driving and at malls – mouth gaped open and heavily breathing out of their food hole instead of using thier nose holes. They just look stupid. I’m sorry, they just do. Its as if its a part of Gods’ genetic code to point out the ignorant and stupid ones.

Well, I’m that guy right now. Staring at my computer, undignified, breathing out of my mouth like a dying fish. I hate it.
