the Moz

When Brian and I first started dating, he confided in me that there was another love in his life. Although not too concerned, I was curious as to whom this “other” was. To my instant relief he shared the name of the “other” – Morrissey. I giggled at first, but then noticed the serious and affectionate look on his face. I had been a fan of the Smiths early on, but he soon introduced me to a new eschilon of music appreciation. After five years of being married to Brian [ok, it's not five years until next month, but I figure it's close enough to say five] we finally had the opportunity to enjoy the Moz together. WTF?

Well the Lomo contest is done and the winner was… not us.  I guess, despite the fact that the rules say “ Mentally command your peers to “view” your image” you win by someone, greater than the populous, judging the photos. You can see the semi-good winner here. So thank you for voting, wasting time and burning calories on this silly photo of a dog. I appreciate it.

THE HEAT IS ON!!

For the past month we have been at war. We have been at war with bad photography! Now is the time for you join in the battle and go vote repeatedly by CLICKING THIS LINK for the photo I took of Gracie the seafaring dog. (aka my parents dog)

The past few days we have been ahead by over 300 votes – that is until today my friend Brady discovered that some dorky apocalyptic horsemen photo was gaining on us. So… please go vote as much as you can for the next four days. The last day for voting is Thursday the 19th. GO VOTE!!!

What we learned- 2nd week of July

This was a sorta rough week. We drove up to Ohio to see my sick grandpa. Leah found out that one of her close family friends passed away. So… the theme of the week : MORTALITY.

- Leah and I’s new favorite show is Flight of the Conchords
- I am a wicked-good tambourine player
- This is what Leah would look like as a Simpsons character
- Collective Soul (the band) is still around and I designed a DiscRevolt baseball card for them
- We are getting increasingly angry about the fact people still think that you can’t be in support of the troops and disagree with the war at the same time

Grandpa

grandpa and me

The trip to Ohio was good. We did lots of driving and stopped at lots of truck stops. But more importantly, we hung out with grandpa and grandma. Grandpa got out of the hospital Saturday afternoon so by the time we got to Bryan he was already at home. We hung out and we looked through lots of photo albums and he told me all about his old WW2 buddies and he remembered every name of nearly ever person in every photo. It was really fun. Grandpa was also giving lots of his paintings and tools to me. He wanted to make sure that if anything happened to him anytime soon, his art and tools were taken care. It was sweet, but it also bummed me out.

Over all the trip was great. Grandpa is feeling better. He’s not perfect or at 100% but I know he had a great couple of days. We got to see my old buddy Nick and his family. Thanks for all your prayers.

The Heart of it All…

Tomorrow morning, early, Leah and I are heading to Ohio.  Ohio is where I grew up, its my favorite state, and is the state that some of my favorite people in the world live.  The 2 I love like crazy are my Grandpa and Grandma and right now my Grandpa isn’t doing so well.  So we’re going to drive up there to hang with them as well as my parents.  Lets just say its tough right now, but a long drive is well worth it for even just a few minutes of face time with two of the neatest people I know.   If you’re the praying type – we’d appreciate you prayers for Grandpa and the family.

Hot Dog

doggie!
Doggie-photo-mania is sweeping the internet! At least in my neck of the woods. Leah was surfing the Lomography photomission site to vote for the ‘Gracie Photo” and realized that the photo wasn’t in first place anymore and that it was overtaken by two girls kissing and some dude sleeping. (stupid and boring…in that order) So I mentioned to my boss at DiscRevolt about getting more votes – and before I knew it he had posted it up on his Delicious page as well as Digg.

So… with that said – please vote for the photo I took of Gracie (my parents dog) by clicking here. Simply clicking on the link and viewing the photo is a vote for me and the photo. Also if you can do me a favor and pass the link along to others. Maybe post it on your blog, myspace, virb, facebook, or what ever social network site you call home. If you’re a Digg user – click here and DIGG it. The contest ends on July 19 so feel free to vote/click often.

Oh. One last thing. I have been getting a lot of grief from my office buddies about the terrible grammar on the photo’s info/story. I typed this out in such a hurry a few weeks back that I just typed something really quick without thinking. This is no excuse for bad grammar. So if you’d like, in the comments section here, tell me how stupid I am. I deserve it.AS OF 1:50pm est – 7/5/07 – 719 votes.

I said forever!

boomI would say the most patriotic song of all time is Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” That song is the jam. Every time the fourth rolls around I want to rock this song from the back of my 88 Camaro (which I wish i had). I remember back in the day playing snare in the Bryan, Ohio city band and this was the song that would bring the house down. It is to old people what “Sweet Home Alabama” is to rednecks. It was great.

So… HAPPY 4th of July! and remember these Rick-diculous words…

Let eagle shriek from lofty peak
The never-ending watchword of our land;
Let summer breeze waft through the trees
The echo of the chorus grand.

What we learned this week- last week of June 07

I had this thought in the shower (where all good thoughts come from) the other day that Leah and I have fun, sad, inspirational, amazing and crazy things happen to us each week. Most go unnoticed because we are too busy to notice them. Its one of those “stop and smell the roses” sorta things. I want to be deliberately aware of how different our past 7 days were from the previous 7 days. I want to be aware of the journey and not just excited about the destination. With that said I want to do a weekly post of stuff that is great, amazing, sad, funny, inspirational and crazy from our week.

- The iPhone just may change the world.
- The US’s healthcare system is jacked up. We want to move to France or the UK.
- Decatur,GA looks like a cool place to live.
- Leah discovered the awesome gaming power of the Nintendo Wii.
- The National’s “Boxer” and Wilco’s “Sky Blue Sky” are probably the best records of 2007.
- When you are using the gifts that God as given you, in whatever capacity, that act is sacred and worshipful.
