Leah the unibomber?

Snowy Juno

As you probably know, from either reading our blog or the daily news, it’s been snowing here this weekend. We got 2 inches on Saturday and they were expecting freezing temperatures on Saturday night, so most things were anticipated to be closed today.Being from Michigan & Ohio, we are no strangers to the snow and driving in it, but did wonder what it would be like here since this type of weather doesn’t happen that often.

We ran our errands early Saturday and then attempted to catch a matinee showing of Juno.  A new indie film that intrigued us while also receiving great reviews.Sitting in the theater waiting for it to begin there were a handful of people, mostly high schoolers. One of the many reasons we no longer go to regular theaters or see movies until they come out on video or HBO. The annoyance of people talking and chomping on popcorn, it not work the financial trade-off. Anyway, the movie began and it was off to a good start until the sound slipped off track and then ultimately quit. Being disappointed that we finally went out a see a movie and then for this to happen, we quickly decided to leave, get our money back and go home a relax. We’ll finish the other half when it comes out on video, until then – oh well.

I have been working on a series of collateral and banners for an upcoming RCA Church Planters conference and I was struggling with what to use as a photo to represent the theme “RELEVANT.”  So I ended up looking through online stock photos and then to my cache of digital photos and I ended up landing on a photo I shot of Leah while in the DC Subway. I think it works. After all she is my favorite subject to photograph… why not put the photos to good use.

HMO Rant time

Kaiser insurance can eat my ever-loving shorts. They suck like a  Dyson vacuum.

At the top of the year Leah’s company switched insurance on us. Lucky for us the whole “LEG” thing was over with and paid for by our previous insurance company. Now we’re stuck with Kaiser and have to start all over again getting new prescriptions and new this and new that its a big hassle. I take an acid reducer prescription that has been working like a champ for me for over 3 years. I ran out the other day and was then instructed by the pharmacist holding my bottle of sweet drugs that I couldn’t have them, I first had to go see a doctor to write a new prescription. Fine.

Call up to Kaiser and tell them “look… i just need my prescription for X filled. Please hook me up.” I make an appointment with ONLY this in mind. Roll in today for my appointment- pay the copay then meet the doc. No sooner than he shakes my hand he tells me I can’t get my acid reducer meds from Kaiser. They “don’t cover it.” But instead he “recommends” I take some crappy over the counter crap with a picture of Brett Favre on it. WTF? This also coming from a doctor who is the overweight Star Trek Patch Adams of the Atlanta burbs with more pins on his lab coat that a Hot Topic mall-punk. I was/am pissed. This over the counter crap is way more expensive that what my old and new prescription copay was. Its nice that this jack-hole of a doctor gets to screw around with my money and my body like its no sweat.

We’ll see how this experiment goes. Sure wish I lived near Mexico still where a short drive in to TJ could have fixed this. I just now realize how well I had it with my old insurance. Throughout the whole leg thing they were totally cool. Everything was taken care of and spelled out. Now with Kaiser I have to ultra-qualify to get any normal prescription meds.

This system sucks and thats why any presidential candidate who is out to fix the system… I’m down with.

Scarlet & Gray Matter

I sorta feel how Tressel looks in this photo. What a bummer. I just can’t handle all this disappointment 2 years in a row. I think Ohio has turned into the Boston Red Socks of sports states. Let down after left down. Tribe, Cavs, Bucks (football and basketball) and even the Browns. Close but never fully there. I think we should lobby the sports media and try to get them to paint Ohio as underdog state. Think about it. The world as a whole could get behind the whole state of Ohio and be loosely connected Ohio sports fans. Just a thought.
