ATL weather part 2

I was really hoping to get some work done on my personal website today – but instead of working in my office, Leah, Candy, Chad, Rascall, Scooter and I spent most of the day in our basement. We got SLAMMED with bad weather. The weather guys were calling for tornados in our area – so instead of taking any chances I packed up my hard drives, laptops and cameras and headed to the basement. We got nailed with golfball sized hail in two different storms but, by the grace of God, we didn’t get any tornados.

We did however sustain some lovely dents from the golfballs hail. Nothing insurance cant fix – but who wants to pay for that?

During all the storm stuff I had my camera in hand to document the whole thing.I just uploaded them to Flickr so check out our fun afternoon.

ATL weather

This is NOT our car. But it is some poor unfortunate soul’s automobile here in Atlanta.

We had a twister here in the HOT-LANTA last night and Leah and I are OK. We actually dont live in the city, we live quite a bit north in a suburban area that was free from tornadic activity last night. BUT…we were however, in the city when the tornado struck. We were having dinner in Atlanta with some friend at a Mexican restaurant…and all was well. There was some really insane lighting but no thunder. It seemed like flashes from a camera – but no thunder. Instead of heading back to our friends house, we drove to Decatur (east of Atlanta) to show them our new house. As we did our new home drive-by”, it started to rain and we decided to go back to their place. Around the same time of the tornado, we were in the midst of maybe some of the worst ran/hail I had ever seen while driving. At first we did the “hey…pull over and we can wait this out” thing, but the rain was coming down so hard we thought “lets get to some shelter” so we headed back to their place. When we arrived at their home, we flipped on the TV and saw all the drama in downtown. Somehow, while we were out and about, we missed the tornado but got the rain and hail part.

The tornado struck down around the CNN center area and then carried on to Cabbage town. By CNN center was a home for rent that Leah and I were really into – it was about 6 blocks from the damage. Then in Cabbage town was a place called the Cotton Mill Lofts that Leah and I were also interested in renting – it too was jacked up from the storm. So we know the area pretty well – and are glad we were not there.

And because you’re really curious – the Mexican restaurant “Las Margaritas” was fantastic.

I Want to be Great!

Brian recently had a great opportunity to do a design project for a large church in the area called Northpoint. They have two other campuses and the main pastor is Andy Stanley, son of Charles Stanley.

To back up a bit and explain why this is both 1]  a great experience and 2] note worthy for the blog. . . the irony lies in that one of Brian’s main motivations for pursuing graphic design after he left the Crystal Cathedral was that he felt he was not only talented, but divinely gifted in this area & thought that it would be great one day if he could combine his abilities [design, art, photography, eye for details, etc.] with this passion [church, God, etc.].

Once we moved to the Atl [or a suburb an hour away - not important, just annoying]  he accepted a job at Disc Revolt which we were both excited about. Unfortunately this experience was short-lived and he was laid off a few months later. At first this was shocking and angering all at once, however what we know now is that is catapulted his career and ultimate dream job of doing freelance graphic and web design. Something he had wanted, but had not yet pursued. After he was laid off, he had no choice, it was the only option. And now six months later, we couldn’t be more thankful for this “terrible” thing that happened at Disc Revolt.

All of this to write that he recently completed a project for Northpoint church which finally was the culmination of the project that Brian had hoped for over a year ago! The sermon series was called, “I Want to be Great!” and he was able to do both photography and design. And if you look closely, you may recognize an outline or two. You can click here to see a few pics of the final project on stage at church.

Critical Tuesday

Aka: Super Tuesday, part II – however you refer to it, today is the second most important voting day for final delegate distribution and deciding who will remain standing as this crazy contest narrows the candidate pools down to the remaining two for the “big vote” . . . or will it?!

Regardless of who you love/like for the next President, my reason for posting this is simple . . . GO VOTE! For those of you in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont – our future is in your hands so vote wisely and confidently. The majority of the rest of us have already said our peace and so, finger’s crossed, today will have record turnout in these four states today, especially Texas and Ohio. [for you Buckeyes, brave the cold, it will be worth it - promise!]
